Samuel Haun Jr., 85, of Danville passed away on December 15, 2008 at Provena USMC Logan Campus. Samuel was born on January 18, 1923 in Homer, IL son of Samuel and Florence Ghere Haun Sr. He married Barbara A. Wallace on April 18, 1958. She survives along with children: Samuel Haun of Champaign, Ronald E. Haun of Danville, Loretta Jacobson of Danville, and Debora (Michael) Burghart of Danville; five grandchildren: Kristie, Tabatha, Valerie, Allison, and Ralph Samuel; and sister Julia Zedrick of Westville. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and a sister. Samuel was a retired truck driver, working at O & M and ONeils. He was also a bus driver for Bee Line Transit. He was past Commander of the Navy Club were he was very active. Sports were very important to him, he was a die-hard Cubs fan. In school he was known as cherry nose and very active all four years of high school in basketball & football. He belonged to Teamsters Local 26 and served in WWII from 1942 to 1945 as a Gunners Mate 2nd class in the U.S.C.G. A graveside service will be held at Danville National Cemetery on Wednesday, December 17, 2008 at 2:00 pm. Sunset Funeral Home & Cremation Center in charge of arrangements.
