S. Shane Spicer 48, of Georgetown, passed away at his home Friday July 24, 2015 at 6:50 am. He was born on September 11, 1966 in Danville, the son of Gary and Joyce ( Finney) Spicer. Shane had married Anita Stultz on October 6, 1990 in Danville, she will miss him dearly as well as His parents, Gary and Joyce Spicer of Catlin, his daughter Emma Spicer and her fianc Craig Denton of Georgetown, his grandmother ;Loretta Finney of Shelbyville, Il, two sisters; Tonda (Jeff) Burrows of Louiville, Ky, Tricia (Mike)Todd of Bloomington, Il, his nieces; Bailey Fleck of North Carolina, Riley Fleck of Bloomington, IL, a nephew; J.J. (Ritu) Burrows of San Fransico, CA, Great Niece; Jaz Burrows of San Fransico, Ca, his uncles; Jerome (Tes) Finney of Windsor,IL and Bill (Cheryl) Henson of Johnsonville, IL, a special friend; Otto Collins of Indianola. Shane was preceded in death by his grandparents Warren Finney and Russell (Lois) Spicer and a niece Haley Burrows. In the few, short years that Shane's wet, muddy boots tromped on this earth, he truly lived life. In fact, his only "down time" was spent watching a CUBS game in his recliner underneath a quilt that his grandma Lois hand stitched with the air conditioner cranked up at full blast. Oh, and of Course, a cold, crisp, clear glass (never plastic) of iced tea in his hand. You could say he loved trapping, hunting and fishing, but that's' a complete understatement. He Lived to trap, hunt and fish; as I always believed he was born one hundred years too late. And, I love that he passed those passions on to our daughter, Emma. If you were fortunate enough to have heard him sing, then hold tight to those memories. He gave it his all when he stepped on stage. And, it didn't matter if that stage was in a local bar, at a festival on a flat bed trailer, at the Georgetown Fair, or in front of thousands at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville. And if his life wasn't full enough, he brought a menagerie of animals including chickens, turkeys, ducks and pygmy goats to our little place in the woods, that we jokingly dubbed "The Death Farm". Shane's "real" job gave him life-long, timeless friends. A 25 year Union Carpenter, he helped to build and repair many buildings and bridges you most likely have traveled over. If you have ever worked with Shane, better known as "Spit" or "ski", then you'll understand this next phrase. "Shane, cut me forty six footers". After his heart attack in 2006, Shane's world completely changed, but the love of his family and friends became even stronger. As much as Shane loved life on earth, I can only imagine the perfect life he's living now. A special thanks to all of his caregivers who came to the home. A celebration of life memorial visitation will be from 4-8 pm Wednesday July 29,2015 at Sunset's Houghton-Leasure FuneralHome in Georgetown. There will be no service. Memorial contributions can be given to the Vermilion County Conservation District. Please join Shane's family in sharing memories through his tribute wall at www.sunsetfuneralhome.com
