Ruthey M. Claiborne

Ruthey M. Claiborne, 80, of Urbana, passed away at 9:35 AM on Thursday, March 13, 2014 at Heartland Healthcare in Champaign. She was born February 1, 1934 in Grenada, Mississippi, the daughter of Samuel and Florence (Kindle) Johnson. She married George Claiborne on August 20th, 1954 in Champaign. He survives. Other survivors include 1 daughter, Sheila (Phil) Henley of Tempe, Arizona; 5 siblings, Rosie L. Dyer of Champaign, Samuel Johnson of Urbana, James Johnson of Oakland, California, Robbie Godley of Detroit, Michigan, and Ada Goines of Panama City Florida. She was preceded in death by her parents, 4 brothers, and 4 sisters. Ruthey was a member of Mt Olive Missionary Baptist Church in Champaign, where she served for many years as an usher. She really enjoyed cooking and playing cards. A celebration of the life of Ruthey M. Claiborne will be at 12:00 noon on Monday, March 17th 2014 at Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church, 808 E Bradley Avenue, Champaign. Pastor Keith Thomas will officiate services. Visitation will be1 hour prior to services at the church. She will be laid to rest in Danville National Cemetery. Sunset Funeral Home in Champaign has been entrusted with assisting the Claiborne family with services.
