Ruth I. Brooks Engle

Clinton, Ind. -- Ruth I. Brooks Engle,102, a resident of the Vermillion Convalescent Center the past 4 years and a former resident for 26 years of the Blacks Mill Road Apartments in Rockville, passed away at 4 a.m. EST Friday, January 9, 2009 at the Vermillion Convalescent Center in Clinton, Indiana. She was born December 3, 1906 in Eugene, Indiana, the daughter of the late James and Elizabeth Sollers Miller. She first married Eugene LeClaire. She later married William R. Brooks, who died in 1969. Later, she married Edward Engle and he preceded her in death in May 1975. Also preceding her in death are two sons, Dale Eugene and James A. LeCLaire; two sisters and two brothers. Ruth is survived by two step daughters: Margaret Bishop and Lucille Davis both of Lafayette, Indiana; four grandchildren; several great grandchildren and a special nephew, Bob Spivey of Lodi, California. Ruth worked for many years as a LPN at the former Clinton Hospital in Clinton, Indiana, Rockville/Clinton area nursing homes and private duty. She was a former member of the Bunco Club in Cayuga. She enjoyed playing bingo and traveling to many of the states after she retired. Funeral services: 2 p.m. EST Sunday, January 11, 2009 at DeVerter Funeral Home in Cayuga, Indiana; Officiating: Rev. Grover Williams; Burial: Eugene Cemetery, Eugene, Indiana; Visitation: one hour prior to services Sunday, January 11, 2009 at the funeral home.
