Oakwood - Ruth Vinson Fletcher, 83, passed away peacefully on January 13, 2015 at Hawthorne Inn in Danville. Ruth was born the daughter of Louie and Helen Smith on April 22, 1931 in Rantoul. Ruth married Robert Vinson on February 14, 1950, they shared a wonderful 31 years of marriage until his passing on November 20, 1981. Ruth married Ed Fletcher on June 22, 1991 and enjoyed 23 years of marriage until his passing on October 16, 2014. Ruth is survived by her children Bob (Bonita) Vinson of Oakwood, Jody (Steve) West of Oakwood, Cindi (Donnie) Bennett of Oakwood, Dennis (Brenda) Vinson of Danville, and KP Vinson of Oakwood; her step-children Phil (Alice) Fletcher of Danville and Jeannie (Dale) Munds of Bonnville; 15 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; 4 step-grandchildren and 5 step-great-grandchildren; and special friend Ruby Lockwood and Marilyn Wolfe. Ruth is preceded in death by her parents Louie and Helen Smith; her husbands Robert Vinson and Ed Fletcher; her son Mark Vinson; her siblings Sonny Smith and Betty McElroy; and great-grandchild Jacey Vinson. Ruth was a one of a kind woman. She loved everything to do with sports, roughing it on a camping trip with her family, and was a lifelong Cubs fan. She was known for being strict but fair with her children, selfless to all her neighbors and friends and was the “neighborhood mom” to many of her childrens friends. She was very kind and will be greatly missed by her family and friends. A celebration of Ruths life will be at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday January 17, 2015 at Sunsets Oakwood Chapel. Visitation will be from 3 pm to 7pm on Friday January 16, 2015. Pastor Kim Dancey will officiate. Burial will follow at Stearns Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family ask that you donate to Hebron United Methodist Church in her name.
