Covington, Ind. - Ruth Abernathy Bever, 91, of Covington, passed away at 9:30 a.m. EDT Sunday, June 2, 2013 at Ben Hur Nursing Home in Crawfordsville, Indiana. Ruth was born July 6, 1921 in Veedersburg, Indiana, the daughter of the late Fred and Gertie Cates Abernathy. She married Darrell Henry Bever on December 23, 1939 in Veedersburg, Indiana. He preceded her in death on March 3, 1993. Survivors include one daughter, Diana Pundt of Bismarck, Illinois; one son, Richard Bever of Veedersburg, Indiana; daughter in law, Jackie Bever of Florida; ten grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; four nieces, Nancy Johnson; Sharen Frizten and Sue Hallett all of Indiana and Janet Roe of Florida. Ruth was preceded in death by her son, Joe Bever; great grandson, Christopher Bever; son in law, Charles Pundt; four sisters, infant Hazel Abernathy; Wilma Banks; Wanda Summers and Dorothy Cotterell; one brother, Fredrick Abernathy; two nieces, Meredith Cotterell and Karen Summers, and one nephew, Frederick Summers. Ruth graduated from Kingman High School in 1939. She lived most of her life in Covington. Ruth worked for 17 years at the Beef House as a cashier and baker. Ruth and Bob Wright started the Beef House rolls. She retired in 1983 and moved to Apopka, Florida, returning to Covington in 1990. Ruth's many memberships include the First Assembly of God Church, Women's Missionary, Prime Timers and the Home Ec Club, all of Covington. She was Vice President for two years of the Sterling Church Ladies Aid. Ruth was a 50 year member of the Yeddo Eastern Star and was a former Past Matron. She was also a Past Page for the Indianapolis Grand Chapter and a Past Guardian of Job Daughters Bethel 57 in Covington. Ruth's family was so special to her. She loved her church family, Beef House family and the Ladies Aid and many friends that she baked pies for. Ruth visited several patients at The Waters of Covington at least once a week. She was also an avid sports fan. Funeral services: 2 p.m. EDT Friday, June 7, 2013 at the First Assembly of God Church in Covington, Indiana; Officiating: Rev. John Hallett and Pastor Bob Fairchild; Burial: Rockfield Cemetery in Veedersburg, Indiana; Visitation: 11 a.m. EDT until time of services Friday, June 7, 2013 at the church. DeVerter Funeral Home in Cayuga, Indiana in charge of arrangements.
