Danville Ruth A. Harrison, 88, of Danville, formerly of Bismarck, passed away at 1:31 AM on January 5, 2023 at OSF Sacred Heart in Danville. She was born on January 8, 1934 in Danville, the daughter of James Clarence and Devorah Belle (Jones) Campbell. Ruth married Robert C. Harrison Jr on August 9, 1958 following him throughout his career in the United States Marine Corps. He survives.
Also surviving are four children, Megan Brady of Danville, Anna Marie (Thomas) Kukla of Danville, Mary (Scott) Tague of Charleston, and Robert "Perry" Harrison of Hoopeston; two grandchildren, Jeremiah and Benjamin Brady; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her parents-in-law, Lloyd and Sylvia Shonyo, and RC Harrison, Sr.; siblings, Juanita Campbell, Harriet (Gorman) Givens, Leona (William) Givens, Robert (Winiferd) Campbell, Herbert (Mary Alice) Campbell, Walter William Campbell, Norma Jean (Ray) Thompson, and Lois June Campbell; niece, Nancy Johnson; and a nephew, David Campbell.
Ruth was a 1954 graduate of St. Elizabeth College of Nursing. She was very proud of her Nursing cap and Senior cape which she still had. Ruth met the love of her life, Robert, at the age of 13 while working as a tray girl at St. Elizabeth. They would go on to marry. After Bob's military career they settled in Bismarck where they would build their first and only home of their own. She returned to her beloved OB Department at St. Elizabeth where she worked beside her sister Norma.
Ruths life was focused on her family. She was a creative person who sewed many cheerleading skirts and wedding dresses for them. She was also the craft director for her daughters Girl Scout and Brownie troops. She enjoyed friendships and fellowship with the Bismarck HCE Chapter and was also a member of the Newell Township Historical Society. Bismarck was her town and she was involved with its incorporation. Her husband was appointed the first mayor.
If you knew her, you were blessed. A kind, wise, sensitive soul with a dry wit has left us, but she is at peace and with her family, awaiting us with open arms. We cherish you, Mommie.
