Urbana - Russell "Uncle Russ" Slade, 59, of Urbana passed away at 12:35 AM on Wednesday, May 4, 2016 at his daughter's home, surrounded by family. He was born on March 22, 1957 in Urbana to Violet Mae Evans. He is survived by his four children, Russell "Bubby" Slade, Matthew "Silky" Slade, Cheryl (Travis) Slade, and Ashley (Nathan) Slade, all of Urbana; the mother of his four children, Tina Hoffman; two brothers, Gerald Evans of Urbana, and Donald (Liz) Huskisson of Tolono; four sisters, Roxanne (Deni) Coad of Champaign, Kelli Martin (Tommy) of Mahomet, Stacy (Sandra) Evans of Minnesota, and Kim Evans of Missouri; and seven grandchildren, Brayden, Jayden, Baylee, Bryce, Kingston, Bella, and Bentley. He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Myrtle Slade, mother Violet Evans, three nieces, Vicky Rae, Brandy Marshall, and Michelle Coad, and his dog and best friend, Saide Slade. Russ Loved his grandkids more than life. Papaw never missed a baseball game. Russ worked as the Maintenance Supervisor for over 20 years at Ramshaw Real Estate. He enjoyed playing horseshoes and bones, his nightly country cruises, with his Uncle John, looking for deer. He had a passion for demolition derbies, and nascar. Driving his black "3" car, tearing up the tracks and winning the "Daytona of Derbies", at the Champaign county fair 2013. He enjoyed spending time at "Silky Camp", building cars, power wheels for the kids and lawn mowers with his friends. His Crew Chief - Dan, Kevin, Pat, Chad, Craig, Ben, Steven, Dayton, Cory C, Gandy and especially his buddy, Logan "The Destroyer". "Throw It Up". He was willing to help anybody. The man you called for advice, to talk to or just a shoulder to lean on. Uncle Russ will be missed by many. Remembered for being a loving, caring, funny man! He gave cancer a good fight all the way to the end! We love you, super man! A service to celebrate the life of Russell Slade will be held at 5 PM on Sunday, May 8, 2016 at Sunset's Champaign-Urbana Chapel. Pastor Leland Collins will officiate. Cremation rites will be accorded following the services. Visitation will also be held from 2-5 PM, prior to the service on Sunday, also at Sunset in Champaign. Memorials may be made to the family.
