Russell Brooks Pugh, fondly known as Brooks, passed away on June 9, 2025, in Danville, Illinois, at the age of 75. He was born on February 9, 1950, in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, and lived a life marked by dedication to his family, a successful career, and a deep passion for his hobbies and interests.

Brooks embarked on his professional journey at Continental Can and dedicated over 39 years of service before retiring from Ball. His commitment to his work exemplified a strong work ethic and a sense of responsibility that he carried throughout his life.

A proud veteran of the United States Army, Brooks embodied the values of service and commitment. His military background instilled in him a sense of discipline that transcended into every aspect of his life.

Brooks was known for his unwavering support of the University of Alabama, where he reveled in watching their games on television, showcasing his passion for sports. He enjoyed a good poker game, and his competitive spirit extended to playing softball during his younger years. His love for collecting coins and beer mugs reflected his appreciation for history and storytelling, while his beloved Corvette symbolized his zest for life and adventure. Additionally, he cherished watching baseball, further illustrating his love for sports and camaraderie.

Brooks leaves behind his cherished family, including his devoted wife, Sandy "Hegg" Pugh; daughter, Brookie Pugh-Henschen; stepson, Todd Hegg; and stepdaughter, Polly "Matt" Taylor. His legacy continues through his beloved grandchildren: Baylie Gee "Rob McClellan," Blake Gee "Yaritza Mendoza," Andrew Henshen, Damon “Julia” Hegg, Hannah "Jordan" Ahrens, Rachel "Kayleb" Hegg, Harleigh "Chuck" Gayler, Tarisa Taylor, and Trinity "Kyle" Wischmeier. He also adored his great-grandchildren: Ava, Addy, Jennings, John Thomas, Kollins, Edey, Noah, and Ozzy.

In addition to his immediate family, Brooks is survived by his stepbrother, Dan (Jan) Butler; sister-in-law, Kathy Pugh; and sister-in-law, Marilyn "Aaron" Woliung.

Brooks was preceded in death by his father, Russell Brooks Pugh; mother, Sue Kirk-Butler; sister, Carla Arth; brother, Doug Pugh; and sister-in-law, Carolyn Coan.

A Celebration of Brook's life will be held at Sunset Funeral Home & Cremation Center's Covington Chapel, Covington, Indiana, 47932 at 1 pm est. on Thursday June 12, 2025. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Thursday 11-1 pm est. Cremation will be respectfully conducted at a later date and burial at Danville National Cemetery to follow the cremation.
