Danville- Russell Gene Pollitt, 78, of Danville passed away at 8:52 PM on Monday, June 6, 2011 at Provena United Samaritans Medical Center in Danville. He was born on June 7, 1932 in Danville to Russell L. and Clara N. Pollitt. He married Sue McQuown on August 15, 1953. She survives. Also surviving are son Jeffrey Pollitt of Phoenix, AZ, two daughters Kim (Gene) Grubb of Austin, TX and Deb (Randy) Brinegar of Danville; eight grandchildren Amy (Neal) George, Aaron Brinegar, Emily (Daniel) Chappell, Sarah (Zach) Elbers, Mike Grubb, Danielle Grubb, Katelyn Grubb and Drew Grubb; and great granddaughter Kate George. He was preceded in death by his parents. Russ was a 1950 graduate of Danville High School and attended the U of I until he was called to serve in the United States Army. Following his service, he was a sales representative for GE from 1955 to 1987. He then became the southern U.S. regional sales manager for Valmont in the ballast department until his retirement in 1998. Russ was a member of Second Church of Christ in Danville and the Kiwanis Noon Club, and he was a past president of the Red Mask Theater. He served on the Vermilion County Board, and was a past board member for the Salvation Army and the Womens Care Clinic. Russ was an avid sports fan and enjoyed the Cincinnati Reds, Dallas Cowboys and the Mavericks, the Danville Dans and the Danville Vikings. He also liked to attend the Danville Symphony Orchestra events, read books, play bridge, talk politics and, more than anything, spend time with his kids and grandkids. A service to celebrate the life of Russ Pollitt will be held at 10:30 AM on Friday, June 10, 2011 at Second Church of Christ in Danville. Brian Blackford and Dale DeNeal will officiate. Burial will follow at Danville National Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-8 PM on Thursday, June 9 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, A Life Celebration Home in Danville.
