Dana, Ind. - Russell F. Hawn, 95, of Dana, passed away at 1:25 p.m. CST Wednesday, December 10, 2014 at the VA Illiana Health Care System in Danville, Illinois. He was born July 26, 1919 in Vermillion, County Indiana, the son of the late David and Nellie Kyger Hawn. He married Kathleen Vandevender on March 14, 1951 in Cayuga, Indiana. She survives. Other survivors include his children, Kathy(Rob)Manion of Covington, Indiana; James(Dianna)Hawn of Cayuga, Indiana; Ruth Baker of Perrysville, Indiana; Janet Hawn of Dana, Indiana; Phillip(Cathy)Hawn of Dana, Indiana and Rebecca(Tim)Stotlar of Bluffton, Indiana; eight grandchildren; three great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Russell was preceded in death by one grandson, Hunter; three sisters, Sally; Blanche and Elsie, and three brothers, Glen, Gleason and Forrest. Russell retired from the Colonial Brick Company in Cayuga in 1987. He was a veteran of World War II serving with the United States Army. He was a member of the Lindsey Chapel Church in rural Cayuga and Cayuga American Legion Post 263. Russell enjoyed fishing, hunting and gardening. Funeral services: 11 a.m. EST Saturday, December 13, 2014 at DeVerter Funeral Home in Cayuga, Indiana; Officiating: Pastor Don Perry; Burial: McKendree Cemetery in rural Georgetown, Illinois with military rites by the Cayuga American Legion Post 263; Visitation: 10 a.m. EST until time of services at the funeral home.
