Russell J. Duxbury

Russell J. Duxbury, 76, of Mahomet, passed away on Monday, July 6, 2026. He was born on February 28, 1950, in Evergreen Park, IL, the son of Russell E. and Carolyn (née Komendant) Duxbury. He married Kathy (née Kotwasinski) Duxbury, she survives.

He is also survived by his daughters, Melissa Sarah (Nicholas) Smilgys and Laura (Aaron) Poradzisz; grandchildren, Ava Rose Smilgys, Stella June Smilgys, Brielle Poradzisz, and Zavier Poradzisz; as well as sisters, Bonnie Dombrowski and Judi (Wally) Majszuk, and many nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.

Russell is preceded in death by his parents, Russell and Carolyn, and siblings, Richard Duxbury and Mary Lou Kruse.

To know Russ Duxbury “Dux” was a pleasure. He didn’t know a stranger: he was quick with a smile, hello, or wave. To most people, he would say, “How YOU doin?” His big personality and belly laugh filled a room. Those he coached knew his passion, those he worked with knew his dedication, and those he loved knew his adoration. Seeing his grandchildren always brightened his day. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, sharing stories, and listening to music while socializing.
