Covington, Ind. -- Russel C. Davan, 90, of Covington, passed away at 12:40 a.m. Sunday, May 1, 2011 at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana He was born January 31, 1921, in Rossville, Illinois, the son of the late James A. and Zena Allison Davan. He married Ruth F. Dixon on June 6, 1943 at Benson Chapel United Methodist Church west of Covington. She preceded him in death on February 9, 2005. Survivors include: one daughter, Janie(Darrell)Bowers; one son, Joe(Debbie)Davan both of Covington, Ind.; 4 grandchildren, Emily(Andrew)Miller of Williamsport, Ind.; Matthew(Anna)Bowers, Shane Davan and Leann Davan all of Covington, Ind.; 4 great grandchildren, Adrianna, Brent and Carli Bowers all of Covington, Ind. and Keegan Miller of Williamsport, Indiana. He was preceded in death by 4 brothers and 2 sisters. Russel was a retired farmer and carpenter. He was a veteran of W.W. II serving with the United States Army. He was a member of Benson Chapel United Methodist Church since 1943 and the Wabash Valley Senior Citizens Club. Russel was a 1939 graduate of Covington High School. He served on the Troy Township Advisory Board for 26 years. He enjoyed woodworking. Services: 11 a.m. EDT Wednesday, May 4, 2011 at Benson Chapel United Methodist Church west of Covington, Ind.; Officiating: Rev. Brenda Burnworth; Burial: Mount Hope Cemetery in Covington, Ind.; Visitation: 4-8 p.m. EDT Tuesday, May 3, 2011 at Benson Chapel United Methodist Church and one hour prior to services on Wednesday, May 4, 2011; Contributions may be made to the Benson Chapel United Methodist Church, 7114 W. US Highway 136, Covington, Ind. 47932 or to the Friendship Circle Center, 1307 Pearl Street, Covington, Ind. 47932. DeVerter Funeral Home in Cayuga, Ind. in charge of arrangements.
