Ruey Dorothy Ray, 90, of Danville, passed away at 1:15 p.m. Wednesday, April 1, 2009 at Provena United Samaritans Medical Center in Danville. Ruey was born on June 17, 1918 in Willow Shade, Kentucky, the daughter of Elbert and Lena (Hurt) White. She married James Ray on September 19, 1946 in Danville. He preceded her in death on April 12, 1971. She is survived by one son-James (Dana) Ray of Danville; two daughters- Margaret (Donald) Harvey of Burlington, Indiana and Phyllis (Owen) Ellis of Tilton; two sisters- Mary Jo Sweet of Danville and Mabel De St Jean of Crown Point, Indiana; six grandchildren- Steven (Julie) Harvey, Tony (Heather) Harvey, Erica (Rob) Johnson, James Paul (Suszanne) Caudell, Dawn Ann Smith, and Cecil Caudell; 11 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, three brothers, one sister and one very special grandson- Andy Ray. Ruey worked at St. Elizabeths Hospital and at the VA Hospital for several years, until she retired from the VA. She was a member of East Park Church of Christ and was very active in the Thursday School at the church. Ruey was an accomplished seamstress. She was known to make bears for the kids at Provena. She also enjoyed quilting, crocheting, knitting, gardening and baking cookies for the grandchildren and Thursday School kids. A Celebration of the Life of Ruey Dorothy Ray will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, April 4, 2009 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, with Pastor Dennis Floyd officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00-6:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Covington following the service. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made in Rueys name to East Park Church of Christ. E-mail condolences may be sent to the family at: www.sunsetfuneralhome.com.
