Ruby Opal Fleming

Ruby Opal Fleming, 82, of Oakwood, passed away at 4:10 a.m. Sunday, April 26, 2009 at Vermilion Manor Nursing Home. Ruby was born on December 20, 1926 in Gifford, Illinois, the daughter of Charlie and Ida (Lambert) Mabry. She married William Bill Fleming on August 11, 1951 in Oakwood. He preceded her in death on November 11, 1979. She is survived by her three daughters-Joyce Stonebraker of Oakwood, Linda (Joe) Barnes of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, Marsha (Dave) Markwell of Oakwood; four brothers- Ted Mabry of St. Joseph, Johnny Mabry of St. Joseph, Frankie (Eudora) Mabry of Champaign and Charles Mabry of Oakwood; three sisters- Mildred Lomax of Oakwood, Betty Darling of Champaign and Zona Shaffer of St. Joseph; four grandchildren- Amy Barnes of Germantown, Maryland, Jason (Christina) Barnes of Hubert, North Carolina, Michael Markwell of Greenup, Illinois and Chris Markwell of Danville; two great-granddaughters- Desiree Markwell of Westville and Brylie Markwell of Danville; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one brother- Arthur Mabry and one sister- Gracie Frye. Ruby worked at Lakeview Hospital and at Provena U.S.M.C., as the housekeeping supervisor for 17 years, until she retired. She was a member of the Oakwood Christian Church and Christian Womens Fellowship. She enjoyed reading, doing puzzles, and feeding the birds and squirrels. Ruby also loved to spend time with her great granddaughters. A Celebration of the Life of Ruby Opal Fleming will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 29, 2009 at Sunsets Oakwood Chapel, with Pastor Richard Fortier officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00-8:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will follow the service at Stearns Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Oakwood Christian Church.
