Danville - Ruby J. Cope, 70, of Danville, passed this life peacefully with her family by her side at 8:05pm, Thursday, October 2, 2014, at her home. Ruby was born on May 8, 1944, to John Vandergriff and Marjorie {Overton} Vandergriff. She married Carroll Dan Cope on January 29, 1962, and of this marriage, they had five children. She is survived by: her four children, Carol (Leroy) Johnson, Danny (Debby) Cope, Marjorie (the late, Doug) Stacey, & Edward (Debbie) Cope; her two brothers, Lee (Theo) Hermann & Jim (Helen) Herman; her 17 grandchildren; her 25 great grandchildren; and her two great-great grandchildren; as well as, all of her adopted children. She was preceded in death by: her parents; her sister, Phillis Jean Cope; her brothers, Johnny Vandergriff, Robert Lee Vandergriff, & Jerry Stonecypher; and her infant son, Robert Cope. Ruby was a Head-Start Teacher in the 1970s. She also worked for Sportsman Sewing Company in Danville. She also worked for Kmart Department Store for many years until she retired in 1984. Ruby enjoyed spending time with her family, doing crafts, and visiting with friends. She will be dearly missed by her special friends, Judy Mitchell, Connie Jackson, & Brandy McCready. Visitation will be held at 5pm-8pm (CST), Monday, October 6, 2014, at Sunsets Houghton-Leasure Funeral Home, Georgetown, A Celebration of Rubys life will be held at 11:00am (CST), Tuesday, October 7, 2014at the funeral home. Rev. Hank Anderson has been asked to officiate her service. Per Rubys wishes she will be cremated. Private burial will take place at a later date. Rubys family would like to thank Presence USMC, Hospice Care, and her friend & caregiver, Sandy Cundiff, for all their support and great care.
