Roy Rice, 92, of Arcola, passed away Friday, May 16, 2014 at Arcola Health Care. He was born July 9, 1921, in Allerton, IL, the son of William E. and Effie (Hillery) Rice. Roy is survived by many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Ernest, Charles and Eugene Rice; and four sisters, Mable Rice, Marie Scaff, Grace Pollit and Helen Pollit. Following Roys graduation from Georgetown High School, he served his country in the United States Army from 1942 until his discharge in 1945. Roy earned one Service Stripe, four Overseas Service Bars, two Bronze Battle Stars, a Philippine Liberation Ribbon and a Bronze Star Good Conduct Medal during his time in the Asiatic Pacific Theatre. He later worked in Chicago for various department stores and dabbled in farming around the Georgetown area. Roy was a generous, giving person, always helping others whenever he could. He was a talented roller skater, but had a passion for football. He never missed the Georgetown vs. Westville game. If Roy was out driving, you heard him long before you saw him, because he would be singing with the radio at the top of his lungs. A graveside service to celebrate Roys life will be held at 3:00 pm on Tuesday, May 20, 2014 at Stearns Cemetery, Muncie, IL with Janice Peters officiating. Memorial donations in Roy's name may be made to Arcola Health Care Center. Sunsets Houghton-Leasure Funeral Chapel, Georgetown, assisted the family with arrangements.
