Danville – Roy A. Borgwald, 93, of Danville passed away at 6:27 PM on Friday, November 21, 2025, at Hawthorne Inn of Danville. He was born on November 3, 1932, in Danville to Louis and Hannah (Cromer) Borgwald. He married Esther “Arlene” (Miller) on June 3, 1986, at the Second Church of Christ in Danville. She preceded him in death on February 3, 2025.

He is survived by a son, Gary Borgwald of Danville; two “bonus daughters,” Lori (Chris) Marxmiller of Panama City Beach, FL and Jennifer Bohlander of Surrey, BC; six grandchildren, Derek (Katie) Davis, Garrett Borgwald, Megan (Austin) Williams, Luke Bohlander, Spencer (Lauren) Marxmiller, and Presley Marxmiller; five great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Elizabeth Cook, brothers Holly and Howard Borgwald, and a grandson, Christian Marxmiller.

After High School, Roy was a truck driver for Penry Furniture Company in Danville. In 1953, he served his country by enlisting in the United States Army. Following his service, Roy went back to Penry and then Sears where he worked as a service repairman. He then moved on to maintenance at the VA Illiana Medical Systems in Danville until his retirement in 1988. Even after retirement, Roy always had a project to work on. He was also an avid horseshoe player and enjoyed hiking, mushroom hunting, and just spending time outdoors. He could often be found tending to his vegetable garden that was so large, it would be tilled each year by the same equipment used on the fields. Roy and Arlene always looked forward to spending their winters in Arizona and Bradenton, FL.

Roy will be laid to rest with Arlene at Sunset Memorial Park in Danville following a private family graveside ceremony. Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 3940 N. Vermilion St., Danville, IL 61834 has been entrusted with arrangements.
