Roy A. Woodyard, 92, of Danville IL., passed away at 3:30 am on Tuesday June 18, 2013 at the Vermillion Manor Nursing Home. Roy was born on August 28, 1919, to John and Sarah (Kegley) Woodyard in Ashmore IL. Roy was previously married to Tina Melvin and later Charlene Hollingsworth before he met Opal Goodpastor who he married on June 17, 1988 in Danville IL and they remained together until his death. Surviving family includes his son Larry Woodyard of Hobart, IN. and step-son John Snyder of Danville; daughters Sharon (Harold) Titus of Cumming GA. and Rita (Ray) Yates of Dawnsonville GA., and step-daughters Denna (Isaac) Wyatt and Donna Crane both of Danville; grandchildren - Sarah Bilyeu, Melody Woodyard, Erica McCormic, Lorri Nelson, Shaun Titus, Shane Baugh, Jamie Sexton, Dawn Kimbarl and Justin Yates and step-grandchildren- Christopher, Jonathon, Harley and Shelby Wyatt, Justin Shaw and Jessica Elmendorff; and three brothers - Leo, Willis and Ray Woodyard. Roy was preceded in death by his parents, brother Cecil and sisters Ruby, Thelma and Hazel. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the Vermillion Manor Nursing Home for the years of care and compassion they showed towards Roy. Roy served his country with pride during WWII as a member of United States Army where he was stationed in the Pacific. Upon returning home he found work as a farmer. Roy will be remembered by his family as a kind man who enjoyed spending time with others. A private celebration of Roy's life will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday June 21, 2013 at Sunset Funeral Home in Danville with Pastor Raymie Gordon officiating and entombment in the Sunset Memorial Park Mausoleum where military honors will be performed by the American Legion Post #210. A visitation will be held an hour prior from 1:00 to 2:00pm on Friday. Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, A Life Celebration Home in Danville is handling arrangements.
