Rosie L. Dyer, 84, of Champaign, passed away peacefully at 8:35 am on Thursday, September 24th, 2015 at her home. Rosie was born November 23, 1930 in Grenada, Mississippi to Samuel Johnson Sr. and Florence Kindle-Johnson. She married Louis B Dyer on December 27, 1949. He preceded her in death on July 24, 1980. To this union one daughter was born, Rosa J Dyer and one step-daughter, Thelma McClinton. Rosie was a long time member of the Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church in Champaign, where she was an usher, a board member, and Sunday school teacher. Many knew Rosie as a cosmetologist for 32 plus years. She was passionate about her work and had growing hands. She was also involved in the community at Douglas Park, Twin City Cosmetology, was a member of the NCNW, Concerned Citizens for a Better Neighborhood, and volunteered at Presence Covenant Hospital. She loved cooking, baking, and bowling. She leaves behind loving memories for her daughter, Rosa Dyer of Champaign, step-daughter, Thelma McClinton of Los Angeles, CA; 3 grandchildren, Mark and Myron Dyer of Champaign and Nicole McClinton of Los Angeles, CA; 11 great grandchildren, 2 sisters, Robbie Jean Godley of Michigan and Ada Goines of Florida; 2 brothers, Samuel (Frankie) Johnson Jr. of Urbana and James Johnson of California; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, and friends, and a very special caretaker, Barbara Thomas. Rosie was preceded in death by her parents, 5 sisters, 4 brothers, and her loving husband. Rosie had a favorite song titled "I won't complain and may the work I've done speak for me". Rosie loved the lord, and favored 19 Psalm and Proverbs 3: 5-13. Her favorite phrase was.. "My Witness is in heaven my record is on high." A celebration of the life of Rosie Dyer will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, October 2, 2015 at the Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church, 808 East Bradley Avenue in Champaign. Pastor Keith Thomas will officiate services. Burial will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery. A visitation for family and friends will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 pm on Thursday, October 1st at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 710 N Neil St. Champaign.
