Rosemary Hewerdine of Rantoul, IL, known for her Second Choice thrift shop, passed away peacefully at home on June 19, 2025, at the age of 93.
She was born in Pesotum, IL, on May 8, 1932, to Joseph and Ruella Irene Kappes and raised by Frank and Mary Scheurich from Ludlow, IL. Rosemary graduated from Rantoul High School in 1950. She married Wm. P. Hewerdine on January 27, 1951. They celebrated 67 years of marriage before he passed away on April 10, 2018. They had three children, Paul Ira (dec), Patricia Jo, and Pamela Rose.
She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi, Senior Regent of Rantoul Moose, a Eucharistic Minister at St. Malachy’s, and an avid bowler. She loved to travel and spend time with her many great friends.
She had 11 grandchildren: Renee (Patrick) Mellin, Ernest Wm. (Amy) Souva, Dennis Souva, Matthew (Anna) Souva, Joe (Ingri) Barton, Kristen Hewerdine, Jesse Dunkin (dec), Cody Dunkin, Kayla (Russ) Kiger, Zenek Stropes, Ryan Reinagle, and 13 great-grandchildren. She will be leaving many beloved nieces and nephews.
She is survived by Ron Sheurich, Margaret (Donald) Kissaw, Jim (Theresa) Hewerdine, and Erma Hewerdine.
Her two sisters, Bonnie Matthews and Ladonna Walker, preceded her in death.
The family thanks Becky Frazier, Cody Dunkin, and the Transition team, especially Jules and Lori, for the excellent care they gave her.
Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center’s Lux Chapel, 1551 E. Grove Ave. Rantoul, IL 61866, is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.
