Rose Elizabeth Thies Dowling, 88, of Danville passed away at 6:35 a.m. Monday, April 18, 2005 at Provena United Samaritan Medical Center in Danville. Rose was born on March 11, 1917 in Effingham, Illinois, the daughter of John and Rose (Lange) Thies. She married Jack Maynard Dowling on September 16, 1941 at St. Anthonys Catholic Church in Effingham, Illinois. He preceded her in death on April 10, 1993. She is survived by 7 sons- Arthur (Clare) Dowling of Wooster, Ohio, Jack (Abby) Dowling of Hammond, Illinois, Don (Penny) Dowling of Charleston, Illinois, James Dowling of Champaign, Illinois, Rev. Larry Dowling of Chicago, Illinois, Patrick (Denise) Dowling of Rapid City, South Dakota, and David (Penny) Dowling of Columbus, Ohio; 1 daughter- Mary Ann (Jim) Hughes of Westville, Illinois; 1 son-in-law- Jerry Armstrong of Danville; 1 sister- Margaret Imming of Effingham, Illinois; 23 grandchildren- Roseanne Adams, Sabrina Sypherd, Janet Miller, Damian Dowling, Larry Dowling, Amy Henkelman, Theresa Combs, Christine Armstrong, John Dowling, Jim Dowling, Jeannie Holmes, Julie Wilson, Jerry Dowling, Kelly Thomas, Hannah Dowling, Christopher Hughes, Bryan Hughes, Erin Hughes, Alicia Tucker, Jacob Dowling, Nicholas Dowling, Matthew Dowling, and Brandon Dowling; and 32 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 1 daughter- Carolyn Suzie Armstrong, 4 brothers- Paul Thies, Harry Thies, Bill Thies, and Father Art Thies. Rose graduated from High School in Chicago in 1935. Rose worked as a homemaker. She was a member of St. Pauls Catholic Church in Danville. She was a member of the Red Hat Society and St. Pauls Altar Rosary Society. She loved going to her childrens and grandchildrens baseball games. She enjoyed walking, playing golf, tennis, quilting and horses. Rose also enjoyed praying the rosary. She enjoyed baking oatmeal cookies for her grandchildren and she was an avid Chicago Cubs fan.
