Ronald Wesley Rigg

Champaign - Ronald Wesley Rigg, 76, passed away at home surrounded by his family on Thursday September 21, 2017. Ron made his final cruise to be with the ultimate street rodder in the sky. We are saddened by Ron not being here physically, but we are happy to know that the Great Car Club in the sky has gained a new member. He was born on November 9, 1940 in Danville, IL to Emil and Edna (Dilley) Rigg. Ron married Dorothy Ann Maher on May 7, 1967 in Woodhull, IL. Ron is survived by his wife; daughter Heather (John) Bell; grandson Austin Bell; great-grandson Bryce Moore; siblings E. Gene Rigg of Mission Viejo, CA and Marlene Hawkins of Westerville, OH; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. Cars were Ron's passion. He was a classic car enthusiast and member of The 50's Bunch. He loved tinkering on all sorts of things and he enjoyed fishing. His friends knew they could count on him to fix anything. Ron worked at Northern Illinois Water Company and retired in 1999 after 40 years of employment. After that he worked for Myler Automotive and retired in 2006. Family and friends will meet at 10am on Wednesday September 27, 2017 at Sunset Funeral Home, 710 N. Neil St. Champaign, IL 61820 for procession led by the Patriot Guard to Locust Grove Cemetery in Philo, IL. A graveside committal with military rites will be held in Ron's honor. Pastor Herb Coates will officiate. Visitation will be held on Tuesday September 26, 2017 from 5-8pm at the funeral home. Friends with classic cars, motorcycles, and street rods are encouraged to drive them to the visitation and funeral. Memorial donations may be made in Ron's name to Circle of Friends Adult Day Center, 609 W. Washington St. Champaign, IL 61820.
