Ronald Spears, 74, of Danville passed away on August 25, 2009 at Provena USMC Logan Campus. Ronald was born May 2, 1935 in Danville son of Edwin and Susie (Miller) Spears. Survivors include: loving sister Constance (Jim) Miller and several family and friends: Suzette (Matthew Richardson) Astell, Luke (Amy) Phillips, Dylan & Chloe Phillips, Rob (Cathy) Spears, Travis & Stevie Spears, and John John, Darlene (James) Price, Brandy Jeffers, Chloe Miller, Bret (Cathy) Astell & family, Nicholas Pribble, Christopher Phillips, Madyson Phillips, Gladys Musson, Marilyn & Keith Bouslog & family, Mary Lou Thomas, Angela (James) Zarn, and Thomas (Cheryl) Woods & family. He was preceded in death by his parents. Ronald was a graduate of Danville High School and had served in the U.S. Army. He had worked for the Wabash Railroad until being involved in an industrial accident in 1977. He lived many years on the Wabash, and was known in the Covington and Danville area as the Indiana Hippie, he loved fishing and the outdoors. Ronald was an accomplished artist whose artwork was given to the late Governor George Wallace and Former President Bill Clinton. His greatest joys were building tee pees, Indian lore and raising a lion named Samantha. Ronald was a great story teller and had overcame many medical issues in the recent years, spending the last year in the loving home of Suzette and Matt with his beloved cat Sid Astell. A Celebration of Ronalds Life will be held at 11:00 am, Tuesday, September 1, 2009 at Sunset Funeral Home & Cremation Center 3940 N. Vermilion St. Danville, IL with Pastor Gage Norem officiating. Visitation will be held from 4-8 pm Monday evening at the funeral home. Following the service, he will be laid to rest at Atherton Cemetery in Danville with Military Honors preformed by the American Legion Post #210.
