DANVILLE- Ronald Ron L. Mauk, 76, of Danville passed away at 1:35am on Monday, January 7, 2008 at the Danville VA Illiana Health Care System. Ron was born on November 8, 1931, in Springfield, Ill, the son of Lee W. and Mary A. Parkison Mauk. Both deceased. On June 19, 1954, Ron married Claudette Ruth Cox at St. Pauls Catholic Church in Danville. She survives. Also surviving are their four children: Roger Mauk of Danville, Ronna (Roy) Davis of Danville, Rebecca (Dale) Phenicie of Danville, and Rita (Paul) Rollings of Colorado. Ron is also survived by his grandchildren: David (Karla) Sokola, D.J. Sokola, Chrystal Davis, Kyle Phenicie, Cory (Mary) Phenicie, Terance and Donovan McCarty, Miranda Mauk and Steven and Cassie Rollings, his six great-grandchildren: Austin, Alex, Ava, Madisun, Macey, Vienna, and his two half brothers: Rick Mauk and Mick Mauk, both of Springfield, Ill. His grandparents precede Ron in death. Ron graduated from Springfield High School and later enlisted in the U.S Air Force, during the Korean conflict. After the service, Ron was employed with Ameritech Communications, formerly, Illinois Bell Phone Company, retiring after 40 years of service. He was a member of St. Pauls Catholic Church, Danville Knights of Columbus, the American Legion Post 210, the Danville Korean War Veterans, and the Elks Club 332. Ron was also a member of the Telephone Pioneers, and was past chairperson of the Danville Bell Credit Union. Ron enjoyed watching T.V., reading the Newspaper, and debating over current events. He enjoyed watching the Cardinals Baseball team and the Chicago Bears Football team. He also enjoyed camping and fishing as well as eating out with family and friends and always insisting on paying the bill. A celebration of the Life of Ronald L. Mauk is scheduled for 11:00am on Thursday, January 10, 2008 at St. Pauls Catholic Church in Danville. Father John Ugobueze and Father Greg Nelson will officiate the service. Entombment will take place at Sunset Memorial Park with military honors being conducted by the Danville Korean War Veterans. Visitation will be from 4-8pm on Wednesday, January 9, 2008 at Sunset Funeral Home Memorial Park and Cremation Center located at 3940 N. Vermilion Street in Danville. Memorial contribution may be made in Rons name to the Danville VA Palliative Care Unit and/or the Provena Regional Cancer Center.
