Ronald Lee Spiering, 68, of Covington, died at 10:34 A.M. on Friday, March 18, 2022, after two years in a long-term care facility in Covington. Ron was born October 16, 1953, in Danville, IL, son of the late Henry E. and Mary Louise (Kinney) Spiering.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers, Charles William "Chuck" Spiering and Robert Dean "Bob" Spiering. Rons greatest pride was in his father as a decorated WWII veteran and his older brothers military service.
Surviving are his brother, Wayne (JoLynn) Spiering of Covington and sister, Connie (Marty) Lenfesty of Danville, IL. Also surviving are Diana Plunkett Spiering to whom he was married from 1975-2003, their eight children, Crystal Spiering of Bloomington, Todd (Charlyn) Spiering of Raleigh, NC, Ruth "Babe" (Dustin) Harkleroad of Covington, Michael (Brandy) Spiering of Bloomington, Rachel (John) Northcutt of Florence, KY, Lisa Spiering of Covington, Naomi (Christian) Ramirez of Bloomington and Seth Spiering of Covington, along with 23 grandchildren who he enjoyed teasing at any opportunity.
Ron was a lifelong resident of Covington, graduating from Covington High School in 1972. Ron spent his early years fearlessly racing dirt bikes despite injuries and proudly hung his prized bike in his mechanic shop when it fatefully made its way back to him many years later, before it was sent on to be refurbished and returned to its original glory. Ron received his mechanics license in 1977 and spent over 40 years repairing vehicles for countless people. He could always be heard humming, whistling and singing hymns along to the radio he kept playing at Rons Transmission Service. As a strong believer in Jesus Christ as his Savior, he was particularly passionate at ensuring that he kept vehicles running for all pastors and missionaries. His vocation led him to spend countless hours at Carquest auto parts store enjoying, "just one more cup of coffee." And for many years his Saturday mornings included his children taking turns going along with Dad for breakfast with his friends around the table at the Courthouse Caf. Ron loved fishing and always looked forward to his next trip to Luther Village on Dogtooth Lake in Ontario, Canada, and which friends or family he would be taking each time. He was most at peace on the water, and was easily recognized on the Wabash River in his hand-crafted airboats. As work became more difficult for him in later years he found respite and cherished friends in daily lunches at the Beef House restaurant. Ron looked forward to the day he would meet His Savior face to face; he touched the lives of many and will be missed.
