Cayuga, Ind. - Ronald Lee Abernathy, 72, of Cayuga, passed away at 4:55 a.m. EDT Friday, October 18, 2013 at Union Hospital Clinton in Clinton, Indiana. He was born January 30, 1941 in Fountain County, Indiana, the son of the late Orville D. and Maxine E. Coffing Abernathy. He married Judith K. Fultz on July 16, 1995 in Cayuga, Indiana. She Survives. Other survivors include two daughters, Hope(Steve)Carlson of Mahomet, Illinois and Melanie(Fiance` Alan Newman)Harvey of Pemberville, Ohio; two step-daughters, Robin(John)Bryant of Eugene, Indiana and Renee(Jimmie)White of Perrysville, Indiana; four grandchildren, Audrey and Ethan Carlson; Patrick Jennings and Hope Harvey; five step grandchildren and several step great-grandchildren; one brother, Alan(Pam)Abernathy of Covington, Indiana. Ron graduated from Covington High School. He joined the Army in 1961 serving until 1967. He became a State Farm agent in 1970 for 12 years then later started driving semis. In 1983 he became an owner/operator and leased to different companies until retiring in 2008. He was a member of the Cayuga American Legion Post 263 and a retired member of the Cayuga Volunteer Fire Department where he was a past Fire Chief. Ron enjoyed watching NASCAR and playing Euchre with family and friends. A celebration of Ron's life will be from 3 to 5 p.m. EDT Saturday, October 26, 2013 at the Cayuga American Legion. According to Ron's wishes, he will be cremated and burial will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made to the Cayuga Volunteer Fire Department, PO Box 388, Cayuga, Indiana 47928 or to the Cayuga American Legion Post 263, 904 West Ferry Street, Cayuga, Indiana 47928.
