Ronald G. Wickens

Newport, Ind. -- Ronald G. Wickens, 59, of Newport, Indiana, passed away at 5:25 a.m. EDT Monday, April 21, 2008 at Union Hospital in Terre Haute, Indiana. He was born March 1, 1949 in Danville, Illinois, the son of the late Frank A. Wickens and Norma Lu Robertson Wickens. Survivors include: two sons, Erik(Marla)Wickens of Avon, Indiana and Ryan(Maggie)Wickens of Terre Haute, Indiana; two grandsons, Riley and Isaac Wickens; one brother, Larry(Debbie)Wickens of Dana, Indiana and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one brother, Lynne Wickens. Ron retired from the Newport Ammunition Plant in 2003 as a guard and fireman. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War serving with the United States Army. Ron was a 1967 graduate of North Vermillion High School. He was a member of the Newport American Legion, Newport Lions Club and the Montezuma Fish and Game Club. Ron enjoyed going to car shows, attending the Newport Hill Climb every year and watching NASCAR. Funeral services: 10 a.m. EDT Thursday, April 24, 2008 at DeVerter Funeral Home in Cayuga, Indiana; Officiating: Rev. David Wickens; Burial: Danville National Cemetery in Danville, Illinois with military graveside rites conducted by the Newport American Legion Post #184; Visitation: 4 to 8 p.m. EDT Wednesday, April 23, 2008 at the funeral home.
