Ronald G Tranchant, 80, of Westville IL., passed away at 11:05 am on Tuesday July 16, 2013 at Carle Hospital in Urbana IL. He was born on December 3, 1932 to Romain and Yvonne (Delanois) Tranchant in Westville IL. Those left behind to cherish Ron's memory are brothers Norman (Linda), Romain and Gus Tranchant; sister Jane (Lee Blondeel) Curry; nieces and nephews - Lisa (Ross) Wilmot and Jennifer (Ken) Knight, Scott (Ashley), Raymond (Nikki), Pat (Cindy), Jimmy (Carol), and Michael (Patricia) Tranchant, Julie Mornar, Nicky, Brett and Rob Tranchant, Angela (Mario) Panic, Troy (Tammy) Tranchant, Jackie Curry and Melanie George; numerous great-nieces and great-nephews. Ron also leaves behind a special friend and companion Betty Ablinger and her family whom he considered his adopted family; friends John and Sean McBride and other close friends. Ron was preceded in death by his parents, brother John Tranchant and beloved friend and companion Evelyn Golden. A graduate of Westville High School Ron joined the United States Navy in 1952 where he served aboard the USS Larson during the Korean Conflict. After returning home he found work as a pipe fitter for Illinois Power and was instrumental in getting a gas line from St. Louis to Belleville, he retired after more than 30 years of service. Ron was a member of the Westville American Legion Post #51, the Westville Sportsmans Club, and the Illinois Power Retirees. He was a 42 year member of the Masonic Fraternity and a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason in the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, Valley of Danville. An avid sports fan he enjoyed watching the Chicago Bears, St. Louis Cardinals, the Illini and the local Westville High School Sports. An animal lover Ron spent more on feeding squirrels and birds then he did himself. He loved to spend time outdoors hunting, fishing and gardening but above all else Ron enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He will be remembered as a man put on this Earth to help others and will be greatly missed by all who knew him. A celebration of Ron's life will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday July 20, 2013 at Sunset Funeral Home in Danville with Pastor Raymie Gordan officiating and burial at Sunset Memorial Park where military honors will be performed by the Westville American Legion post #51. A visitation will be held from 4:00 to 8:00 pm on Friday July 19, 2013 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, A Life Celebration Home in Danville; Masonic Rights will be performed by the Catlin Lodge #285 at 7:30 pm.
