Ronald Everett Smith

Danville - Ronald Everett Smith, 75, of Danville passed away at 4:30 pm Tuesday September 12, 2017 at his home in Danville, IL. Ronald was born on October 19, 1941 the son of Everett George and Dorothy Francis (Bryden) Smith in Welland, Ontario, Canada. He married Linda Lee Shields on October 19, 1963 in Danville and she preceded him in death on October 1, 1967 as the result of an automobile accident. Survivors include his daughter, Lisa Lynn (John) Miller of Danville, IL and one grandson, Tyler Miller of Danville, IL as well several nieces, nephews and cousins. Ronald is preceded in death by his parents, his father and mother in-law, Dale and Helen Shields, his wife, Linda Smith, two brothers-in-law, Larry Shields and Mike Shields, and one sister-in-law, Kathy Shields. Ronald moved to the United States in 1953. He attended Daniel Grade School and was a 1960 graduate of DHS. Ron worked at Steel-Grip Inc and retired in 2000 after 22 years of service as a Purchasing Agent. He loved all different types of auto racing and was a huge fan of Richard Petty, the "King" of NASCAR. He also enjoyed watching basketball, especially Michael Jordan, and watching football. Ronald was also very fond of a variety of animals, especially his cat, "Mira". A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, September 16, 2017 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 3940 N. Vermilion Street, Danville, IL. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park. Raymie Gordon will officiate. Visitation will be held from 5:00 - 7:00 pm on Friday, September 15, 2017 at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to C.A.R.A.
