Ronald D. Szilagyi, 79, of Westville, passed away on Saturday, September 8, 2012, in Streator, IL. He was born on November 23, 1932, beloved son of Julius & Pauline Szilagyi. Ronald was an alumnus of University of Illinois where he received his undergraduate degree in Science and his D.D.S. from U of I, Chicago. Dr. Szilagyi practiced dentistry and was a member of the Illinois State Dental Society for over 50 years. He was a proud US Veteran of the Army & Air Force and was honorably discharged in 1974 and served as a Reserved Commissioned Officer where he achieved highest rank of Major. Dr. Szilagyi enjoyed athletics & playing tennis, his life passion. He was also active on the U of I Campus in Champaign throughout his life, a proud Illini, attending football games and other activities. He had attended St. Mary's School and was a member of St. Mary's Church where he had served as an altar boy. Dr. Szilagyi is survived by: his three children, Juli, Vince, & Karl Szilagyi; and his ex-wife, Gwen Szilagyi. He is also survived by his good friend, Charles DeBarba of Westville. A Private family service will be held with full Military rites given by the Westville American Legion Post #51 and he will be buried in Sunset Memorial Park, Danville. Sunset-Urbas Funeral Chapel in charge of arrangements.
