Ronald "Ron" B. Perry, 91, of Danville, passed away at 12:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 20, 2011 at Colonial Manor Nursing Home. Ronald was born on November 3, 1919, in Onarga, Illinois, the son of Benjamin and Isabell (Gibbs) Perry. He married Mary C. Haun on June 4, 1942, in Danville. She preceded him in death on September 22, 1995. He is survived by a son- John (Phyllis) Perry of Catlin; daughter- Sue Ann (Jack) Ross of Danville; six grandchildren- Brian Ross, Julie (Eric) Kindred, Michael (Misty) Ross, Philip (Liz) Benjamin, Nicole (Mark) Walker and Scott (Michelle) Benjamin; 13 great-grandchildren; and two sisters- Lucille Green of Spencer, Iowa and Glorene Wheeler of Quartzite, Arizona. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, three brothers- Leroy Ward, Orville Ward and Donald Perry, and two sisters- Ruth Harman and Fannie White. Ronald attended Danville High School. He joined the United States Army in 1941 and served until 1945. After the Army, Ronald went to work for Lauhoff Grain Company and worked there for 37 years, until he retired. In his younger years he enjoyed hunting rabbits, squirrels and pheasants with his twin brother, Donald and son, John. Ron and his wife Mary loved hunting treasures at flea markets and garage sales. They also loved going to their cabin in Minnesota. He enjoyed fishing and being outdoors. After selling his cabin in Minnesota, he bought a place in Kingman, Indiana at Lake Hideaway and continued to fish and enjoyed his time spent there with family. Ronald also enjoyed golfing, spending time with his family and his little dog Midy. A Celebration of the life of Ronald B. Perry will be at 3:00 p.m. Friday, September 23, 2011 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, a Life Celebration Home. Visitation will be from 1:00-3:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will follow the service in Sunset Memorial Park, with full military rites conducted by American Legion Post #210. Memorials may be made in Ronald's name to Colonial Manor Nursing Home.
