Memphis, Tennessee - Bette Jo Summerville Moore, 89, and her husband Ronald Winters Moore, 91, departed this world on March 11, 2014 and April 30, 2014 respectively. Bette was the daughter of the late Alva and Geraldine Jackson Summerville. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Gene and Max Summerville both of Dana, Indiana. Ron was the son of the late Walter and Muriel Winters Moore. He was preceded in death by one sister, Virginia Moore Thomas and two brothers, Donald and Robert Moore. Ron was preceded in death by his loving wife of 70 years, Bette. Ron and Bette are survived by their four children; David(Estelle)Moore of Seattle, Washington; James(Nila)Moore of Dana, Indiana; Betsy(Larry)Pardue of Lakeland, Tennessee and John Moore of Cherokee, North Carolina; six grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. Bette was a member of the Scenic Hills Methodist Church, Ave Maria Guild, Millington Bridge Group and the Order of the Eastern Star. She was also the founding member of the Memphis Smocking Guild. Ron retired after 30 years of service as a Lieutenant Commander and pilot in the United States Navy. He was proud to serve both in W.W. II and the Korean War. After his retirement from the Navy, he worked as a Holiday Inn inspector. Ron was a member of the Scenic Hills Methodist Church, Retired Officers Association, Al Chymia Shrine Temple of Memphis and the Memphian's for America, helping put up flag poles so people could proudly fly the American flag. Ron truly loved America and for what it stood for. Graveside services and burial of cremains will be at 11 a.m. EDT Saturday, May 31, 2014 at Thomas Cemetery in Newport, Indiana; Officiating: Keith Warner. Military rites will be conducted by the Cayuga American Legion Post #263. DeVerter Funeral Home in Cayuga, Indiana is assisting the family with arrangements.
