Roland "Ron" C. Duensing, 85 of Covington, passed away on Sept. 14, 2023 at Signature of Parkwood in Lebanon, Indiana. He was born on Feb. 17, 1938 in Chicago Heights, the middle son of Harry and Francis Drews Duensing. His parents separated while Ron was still young, and the family moved to the Danville area. He and his brothers spent a few years at the Danville Boys Home, which had a lasting and profound effect on Rons life. His mother married Dale Winland, who played a substantial role in his life, and together they continued to raise the boys in Home Gardens. He attended Westville High School and graduated with the Class of 1957. Throughout school, Ron played on the football and basketball teams as well as ran track. He even received a scholarship to play football at University of Georgia. Although he decided the college path was not for him after attending for a couple of years, his passion for all things sports continued throughout his life and he enjoyed coming back to his hometown to play on alumni teams. Ron enlisted in the Navy Reserves soon after college and worked for the Pacific Railroad for a brief time before taking a job at General Motors. It was there at GM that Ron spent the next 25 years as a supervisor in the electrical department before the plant eventually closed. Not one to sit still for too long, Ron moved to Huntington, Indiana to begin work at Western Wheel. Ron eventually retired and moved to Rotonda West, Florida. Ron is remembered as a very loving and giving man. His first marriage was to Marilyn, and together they adopted son John Duensing. After their separation, Ron married Linda Boyd and gained two more sons, Todd and Joe Boyd, from the union. Linda and Ron wanted to grow their family and fostered son Don Koss. In 1985, he married Sarah Derringer and gained two more children, Jessica and Jason Bunch. He enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren, so much so that he and Sarah moved from Florida to Covington so they would be able to see their family more often. Whether he was working on his prize red Chevy truck or just finding something to stay busy, Ron could usually be found tinkering in his garage. He was a huge military buff and enjoyed the company of his Dobermanns Babe and Jack. Ron was preceded in death by his parents, his oldest brother George Duensing, son Todd Boyd, and granddaughter Joellen Boyd. He is survived by Sarah, his wife of 38 years, and his children John (Chellie) Duensing, Joe (Paula) Boyd, Don Koss, Jason (MaryEllen) Bunch, and Jessica (Keith) Wright. He also leaves behind his brother Gerald Duensing, Sr.; grandchildren Danielle and Heather Duensing, Jason Boyd, Kristie Lynn (Micah Dorn), Travis, Brittany, and Lydia Koss, Toby and Sidney Bunch, and Grace Wright; and great-grandchildren Kylie Duensing, and Trenton Callon and Braeden Boyd. Rons family would like to extend a special thanks to the wonderful staff at Witham Hospital, Signature of Parkwood, and Guardian Angels Hospice for the excellent care of Ron in his final stages of life. A visitation will be held on Sunday, Sept. 24, 2023 from 1- 3 pm EST at Sunset Funeral Homes Covington Chapel, located at 420 Third Street in Covington.
