The sunset on the life of Roger (Rog) Kent McMillan ended on February 8, 2016 at 1:13 pm at his home in St. Joseph formerly of Danville. He was 79 years old. The sunrise of his life began on October 9, 1936 in Oak Park, Illinois, the son of E. Floyd (Mac) and Marie E (Nemec) McMillan. He married his loving wife, Garnet (Johnson) McMillan on September 12, 1959 at the St. James Methodist Church in Danville. They recently celebrated 56 years of marriage. Survivors include his wife, Garnet, his son Scott (Becky) McMillan of Cypress, TX, grandchildren; Lindsay McMillan, Erik McMillan, Ian McMillan and Noah McMillan all of the Houston, Texas area, and Michael Stark of Danville, great grandchildren, Logan and Jackson Stark, sister, Audree Riddell of Chicago,Illinois, sister-in-law, Frances (Ernie) Smith of Crawfordsville, Indiana, as well as many loving cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. Rog graduated from Danville High School in 1954 and also attended Danville Area Community College. He was a former member of the Illinois Army National Guard from 1954 to 1960. His employment career consisted of sales, manufacturing, retail and self employment including Kraft Foods. In his free time, he enjoyed watching and playing sports including tennis and basketball. He also had a passion for trivia challenges, and was very fond of reading, especially non-fiction. He also loved to listen to Gaither gospel music. Rog attended Second Church of Christ for many years prior to his illness where he made many friends. He was thankful for 30 caring years of health care with Carle Clinic with much gratitude to his oncologist Dr. Patricia Johnson as well as their fine hospice program. Additionally, he appreciated the "top notch" care of dermatologist Dr. J. Youse and his fine staff at Christie Clinic. Visitation will be held at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Danville on Monday February 15, 2016 from 1-2pm. Funeral services will be held immediately after visitation with Pastor Larry McMillan and Drew Mentzer officiating. Burial to follow at Sunset Memorial Park.
