Roger Dale Sands

Danville - Roger Dale Sands, 67, of Danville passed away at 2:58 am on Tuesday May 30, 2017 at Presence United Samaritan Medical Center in Danville, IL. Roger was born in Danville on December 16, 1949 the son of Elmer and Audrey (Sanders) Sands. Roger married Eunice Mae Collison on September 18, 1970 in Danville and she survives. Survivors include his wife, Eunice of Danville, one daughter, Tina (Garth) Kagels of Covington, IN, one brother, Harold (Nora) Sands of Georgetown, IL, two sisters, Norma (Mervin) Fox of North Carolina and Judy Makemson of Danville, two granddaughters, Olivia (Corey) Osborne of Covington, IN and Mariah (Kaleb Gulley) Kagels of Covington, IN, one great grandson, Beau Robert Osborne of Covington, IN as well as several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Roger is preceded in death by his parents, Elmer (Louise) Sands and Audrey (Albert) Cunningham, one brother, Charles "Sonny" Sands, two sisters, Phyllis Lawrence and Joyce Etchison as well as one brother-in-law, Bob Makemson. Roger attended the Georgetown Church of the Nazarene in Georgetown, IL, retired from Esco Corporation in 1979 and later worked at CCL in production, retiring from CCL in 2005. Roger was a Die-Hard Chicago Cubs Fan and called BINGO at the UAW Hall as well as at War Dads. He supported and attended his granddaughters sporting events and was very excited to be a new Great Grandpa. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday June 2, 2017 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 3940 N. Vermilion Street, Danville, IL. Pastors Gary Farris and Troy Horne will officiate. Burial will be in Gundy Cemetery in rural Bismarck. Visitation will be held from 5:00 - 8:00 pm on Thursday June 1, 2017 at the funeral home.
