Roger Coffing,81, a devoted family man and pillar of the community, passed away peacefully at his home on June 8, 2026, surrounded by his loved ones. Born on April 25, 1945, in Crawfordsville, Indiana, Roger lived a life marked by dedication, hard work, and love for his family and friends.

A graduate of Covington High School’s class of 1963, Roger devoted his entire working career to owning and operating Coffing Brothers Orchard. His commitment to the orchard and his community was profound, as he not only nurtured the land but also contributed to local governance by serving on the Covington School Board from 1990 to 2010. His impact on the community is remembered with deep appreciation.

Roger was a man who treasured family above all else. He found great joy in fishing trips to his cabin on Ord Lake in Canada, often accompanied by his entire family. These outings created lasting memories filled with laughter and connection. He also cherished traveling with his beloved wife, Patti (Hunter) Coffing, including four memorable trips to Hawaii with close friends. Watching his grandchildren participate in sporting events brought him immense pride, underscoring his enduring dedication as a grandfather and great-grandfather.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Patti; his sons Tim (Holly) Coffing, Joe (Melanie) Coffing, and Mark (Beth) Coffing; and his grandchildren Tanner (Jessica) Coffing, Tyler (Jakob) Coffing, Trace Coffing, Brittany (Ryan) Coffing, Brooke (Kaleb) Gulley, Taylor (Justin) Orander, Hadley (Jordan) Kinderman, and Ashlyn Coffing. Roger was also a proud great-grandfather to Greyson Orander, Tinley Stimac, Beckham Orander, Noah Coffing, and Kohen Gulley. He is survived by his sister Rita Paxton and brother Greg (Lori) Coffing, as well as sisters-in-law Sally Gritten and Kay Hunter. Special friendships were also a treasured part of Roger’s life, notably with Scott and Nancy Wallace, Ed and Cheryl Hunt, and many dear friends at Ord Lake in Canada, including Don and Marianne Wright, Shaun and Carly Wright, and Brad and Kristen Wright. His extended family includes many nieces and nephews who remember him fondly.

Roger was preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Sylvia (Abernathy) Coffing; daughter-in-law Susan Coffing; parents-in-law Roy and Louise Hunter; brothers-in-law Jack Hunter and Fred Paxton; niece Penny Coffing Ratcliff; and friends Terry and Sandy Holland and Bud and Sandra Mycraft.

Friends and family are invited to honor Roger’s life at Sunset Funeral Home & Cremation Center, located at 420 3rd St, Covington, Indiana, 47932. Visitation will be held on Thursday June 11, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., followed by a funeral service from 2:00. Burial to follow at Mount Hope Cemetery in Covington.
