Roger Dean Bowling, born February 13, 1955, in Crawfordsville, Indiana, passed away peacefully on April 20, 2026. He was a man devoted to his family, his community, and the many interests that brought joy to his everyday life.
Roger’s life was characterized by his enduring love for the outdoors and sports. He was an avid gardener and took great pleasure in mowing and maintaining his yard. A dedicated sports enthusiast, he followed the LA Dodgers, Indiana University, and Chicago Bears with heartfelt enthusiasm. Roger also found delight in attending Danville Dan's Games, hunting for mushrooms, and watching the thrilling Brickyard Races. Among his proudest accomplishments was coaching his son’s baseball team, a role that embodied his commitment as a father and mentor.
He is survived by his beloved wife, of fifty years, Phyllis (Zeigler) Bowling; son's Dusty (Patty) Bowling and Trent Bowling; and grandchildren Lane (Emily) Solomon, Tesea (Diego Hightower) Solomon, and Nathan Hale. Roger also leaves behind his cherished siblings: Chris (Nancy) Bowling, Lisa Wilson, Guy Bowling, Randy Bowling, and Kami (Kevin Hamman) Gielser. His loyal dog, Manny, remained a constant companion throughout his life.
Roger was preceded in death by his father, Arthur Bowling; mother, Patricia (Lyons) Bowling; infant brother, Jerry Wayne; and his paternal grandparents, Arthur and Grace (Harvey) Bowling and maternal grandparents, John and Ruth (Vale) Lyons.
A visitation will be held on April 24, 2026, from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Sunset Funeral Home & Cremation Center Covington Chapel, located at 420 3rd Street, Covington, Indiana. This will be followed immediately by a funeral service from 3:00 PM until 4:00 PM at the same location.
Roger Bowling’s life was a testament to his steadfast dedication to family and friends, and his passions will be fondly remembered by all who knew him.
