Robert Terry Banta

Robert Terry Banta, 89, of Ridge Farm, passed away at 3:56am, Thursday, August 25, 2016, at Presence USMC, Danville. He was born on August 17, 1927, in Ridge Farm the son of Robert and Ida {Terry} Banta. On February 17, 1963, he was united in marriage to Kathryn Van Allen until her passing on October 6, 2012. He will be missed by: his daughter, Kathy Banta; his sister, Barbara (Bob) Zamen; his nephews, Bobby (Jill) Zamen and Stephen Zamen; his beloved great nephews & nieces, cousins, and in-laws. He was preceded in death by his parents. Terry had served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. Being a lifelong resident of Ridge Farm, Terry served his community as a former Mayor for Ridge Farm, as well as a former member of the Ridge Farm School Board and the Vermilion Regional School Board. He was a member of the Sigma Chi Fraternity and attended Illinois Wesleyan College. Terry enjoyed watching the Fighting Illini, golfing, and working in his yard. He loved his family, friends, Ridge Farm, Banta's Roost, the Illini, his cigars, and the evening martini that he used to share with his wife, Kay. He will truly be missed by all who knew and loved him. A special Thank You to the many wonderful caregivers who assisted Terry over the last four years. A celebration of Terry's life will be held at 12:30pm, Wednesday, August 31, 2016, at Sunset's Houghton-Leasure Funeral Home, 200 E West ST, Georgetown, with Pastor James Blue officiating. Visitation will be 11:00am to 12:30pm Wednesday prior to his service at the funeral home. He will be laid to rest in Crown Hill Cemetery, Ridge Farm, with Military Honors conducted by the American Legion Dornblasers Post #203 of Georgetown. Memorial donations may be given in his name to: Crown Hill Cemetery (PO Box 350, Ridge Farm, IL 61870), Vermilion County Animal Shelter (14775 Catlin-Tilton Rd, Danville, IL 61832), or the Alzheimer's Association (225 N Michigan Ave, Chicago, IL 60601).
