Robert T. Hawkins Sr., 79, of Danville, died at 4:00pm, Monday, September 17, 2012, at VA Illiana Health Care Systems, Danville. He was born on October 12, 1932, in Danville the son of William and Blanche {Elgin} Hawkins, both deceased. He was formerly married to Marilyn Cope on September 12, 1961. She survives of Danville. He will be missed by: his son, Robert Hawkins Jr. of Danville; his daughter, Tammy Hawkins; his step-sons, Randy Deffenbaugh of Danville & Rodney (Sheri) Deffenbaugh of Sidell; his seven grandchildren; his twelve great grandchildren; his brother Jack (Eileen) Hawkins of Covington, IN; and his sister, Ruth Simmons of Pennsylvania. He was preceded in death by: his step-son Tommy Deffenbaugh; his grandson, Christopher Deffenbaugh; his brother, Bill; and sister, Helen. Bob was a proud Veteran of the US Marine Corps. He was a former member of the Newport American Legion. He enjoyed spending time outdoors going mushroom hunting, canoeing, hunting, fishing, & golfing, as well as, playing chess. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandkids. A Graveside service will be held at 1:00pm, Friday, September 21, 2012, at Danville National Cemetery with Pastor James Blue officiating. Visitation will be held two hours prior in the VA Chapel. Memorial donations may be given in his name to Palliative Care Unit at the VA of Danville. Sunset-Urbas Funeral Chapel, Westville, in charge of arrangements.
