Robert E. Stewart

Robert E. Stewart, 83, of Danville, IL passed away at 1:00 PM on January 5, 2026 at the Illiana Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Danville, IL.

Robert was born on May 31, 1942 in Mattoon, IL the son of Russell and Ruth (Ross) Stewart and was raised by Esther and Hosea Humphreys. He married Phyllis Collins on October 27, 1963 in Danville, IL and she preceded him in death on May 4, 2006.

Survivors include his children, Shelly Stewart of Catlin, IL and Bobby (Malinda) Stewart of Covington, IN, four grandchildren, Justin Stewart, Kayla Wilbur, Jeffrey (Whitley) Stewart and Cheyenne Goodhue as well as eleven great grandchildren.

Robert is preceded in death by his parents, wife, Phyllis Stewart, one brother, Harold Stewart and two sisters, Delores Copsy and Eileen Miller.

Robert served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He worked at Hyster/NACCO for over 38 and a half years. Robert loved spending time with his grandkids. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, an avid St Louis Cardinals baseball fan and enjoyed spending his free time gardening, listening to old country music, and bowling.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, January 22, 2026 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Danville, Illinois, 3940 N Vermilion St. Danville, Illinois 61834. Kiley Garrison will officiate. Inurnment will be in Greenwood Cemetery with Military Rites accorded by American Legion Post 210 Honor Guard. Visitation will be held from 9-11:00 AM Thursday, January 22, 2026 at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made in Robert’s memory to the Danville Humane Society or the Alzheimer’s Association.
