Robert W. Smith, 85, of Danville, Illinois, passed away on Friday, December 27, 2024, at his home. 

He was born May 12, 1939, in Danville, Illinois, son of the late William and Thelma (Meers) Smith.

Robert married Judy Abernathy on May 27, 1960, in Danville, Illinois, and she survives.

Also surviving are his children: Clifford W. (Marta) Smith and Justine (Mark) Hanciaux; and his grandchildren: Taylar Hanciaux and Bradley Smith. 

Along with his parents, Robert was preceded in death by one granddaughter: Alexandra Hanciaux.

Robert worked as a Lab Tech at Tee Pak before his retirement after 41 years. He was an avid arrowhead hunter and enjoyed traveling to tradeshows with his collection. He loved the outdoors and could often be found fishing in Kennekuk or mushroom hunting. Most of all, Robert loved his family and was proud of his children. He was especially proud of his son’s 20-year career in the United States Navy. 

A Celebration of Life for Robert will be held at 2PM on Saturday, January 4, 2025, at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center 3940 N Vermilion Street Danville, Illinois 61834. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery. 

The family requests guests wear casual clothing and encourages blue jeans and flannel.
