Robert "Rudy" Rudolph, 90, of Danville, Illinois passed away at 2:15am, August 22, 2024, surrounded by his family.


Robert was born on May 19,1934 in Danville. He was the son of Fred and Blanche (Roderick) Rudolph. He graduated from Bismarck High School in 1953. Robert was employed for 37 years at General Motors Central Foundry. He was a General Foreman in the maintenance department. Robert also served in the United States Army from 1956-1958 and spent 20 months in Germany.


After high school and his tour in the army, he married Sandra Smith, "the love of his life". They were married on April 19, 1959, at the First Presbyterian Church in Danville and recently celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary.


Robert is survived by his wife and three daughters: Jill Dickson, Whitestown, IN; Judith (Mark) Wallace of Farmer City, IL; and Kristin (Mike) Gaby of Avon, IN, six grandchildren: Ashley (Nate) Beachey, Lindsay Elliott, Dylan (Mary) Dickson, Katelyn Dickson, Matthew Gaby and Andrew Gaby; and one great grandchild, Kaysen Beachey. Robert also is survived by his sister, Betty Gallatin of Mokena, IL, his sister-in-law, Shirley Cullen of Denver, CO, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Wanda Pickett, and brothers-in-law, Gene Gallatin and Wayne Pickett.


Robert enjoyed reading, working on his computer, playing golf, watching sports, and spending time with his family. Robert and Sandra also enjoyed traveling throughout the United States and abroad. He was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather and will be greatly missed.


A celebration of Robert's life will be held on Monday, August 26th at 10 am with visitation starting at 9 am at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center 3940 N Vermilion Street in Danville. Rev. Randall Robinson will officiate. He will be subsequently interred at the Mausoleum at Springhill Cemetery.
