Robert R. "Bob" Crist

Perrysville, Ind. -- Robert R. "Bob" Crist, 87, of Perrysville, passed away at 7:03 p.m. CST Wednesday, March 2, 2011 at the Hawthorne Inn in Danville, Illinois. He was born April 29, 1923 in Danville, Illinois, the son of the late D.D. and Clara Crist. He married Ruth E. Bennett on August 15, 1943 at the Newport Friends Church in Newport, Indiana. She preceded him in death on February 22, 2002. Survivors include his children, Jane(Larney)Horstman of Indianapolis, Indiana and Dick(Patty)Crist of Perrysville, Indiana; six grandchildren, Larry(Taya)Horstman; Alan(Kari)Horstman; April(Cory)Leas; Sharon(Nate)Epling; Sarah(Teddy)Wallace, Jr. and Lois Crist; eight great grandchildren, Christian Horstman; Colton Horstman; Morghan Horstman; Kate Horstman; Logan Leas; Colby Epling; Noelle Epling and Eli Epling; niece, Judy Rowe of Florida and a special caregiver/nanny, Peggy Cornelius of Danville, Illinois. He was preceded in death by his grandson, Steven Crist; sister, Laura Maly and brother, Bill Crist. Bob was a retired farmer and bus driver. He formerly worked for the First Baptist Church Bus Ministry in Hammond, Indiana . In 1953 Bob, along with his wife Ruth, founded Superior Coach Sales. He was a member of the Maranatha Baptist Church in Covington and The Gideons International for many years. Bob was a 1943 graduate of Perrysville High School and later received a Honorary Doctorate Degree from Hyles-Anderson College in Merrillville, Indiana. In the 1980's Bob made many missionary trips to Haiti and the surrounding islands. In the early 1990's he was coordinator of the Golden Agers in Danville, Illinois. Bob enjoyed farming, gardening and watching the stock market. Funeral services: 11 a.m. EST Monday, March 7, 2011 at DeVerter Funeral Home in Cayuga, Indiana; Officiating: Pastor Billy Cloud; Burial: Lower Mound Cemetery north of Perrysville, Indiana; Visitation: 2 to 5 p.m. EST Sunday, March 6, 2011 and 1 hour prior to services on Monday at the funeral home.
