Robert "Bob" David Link Jr. passed away peacefully at his home in Alvin, Illinois, on April 2, 2025, with his beloved wife, Tish Link, by his side. Born on February 20, 1957, in Danville, Illinois, Bob graced this world for a remarkable 68 years, leaving behind a legacy of hard work, passion, and familial love.
Bob dedicated twenty years of his professional life as a union carpenter, known for his skillful craftsmanship and unwavering dedication to his trade. Following his tenure in carpentry, he transitioned to a career as a truck driver for Wayne Transportation, where he served for ten years. His pride in never missing a day of work was a testament to his work ethic and commitment to his family.
Beyond his professional endeavors, Bob was a man of many interests and passions. He cherished the thrill of mushroom hunting, finding solace in nature's bounty. Cherishing memories of spending summers camping with his children and grandchildren. His love for dirt track races provided him with countless hours of joy, embracing the thrill and camaraderie that accompanied each race. Bob was an enthusiastic supporter of his children, attending their sporting events. In addition, he found great pleasure in a game of pool, sharing laughter and friendly competition with friends and family. An avid slow-pitch softball player, he continued to play until he was 55 years old, even participating in the Senior Olympics, which he approached with the same enthusiasm he brought to all aspects of his life. Bob was also a lifetime St. Louis Cardinal's fan. He was affectionately remembered as a "momma's boy," embodying a warmth that endeared him to all who knew him. He also loved his grandbabies more than life itself.
Bob leaves behind a loving family who will carry his memory in their hearts. He is survived by his wife, Tish Link; his mother, Martha Link; his children, Amanda (Allan) Shephard, Jacob (Elizabeth) Link, Rachel (Cooper) Link, and Matthew (Lilly) Link; grandchildren Nikolas (Ashton) Shephard, Caden (Layla) Shephard, Tyler Adam, Serenity Link, Journee Link, and Benny Webb; as well as great-grandchildren Lilee, Easton, Eve, and Morgan Shephard. He is also remembered by his siblings: Rick (Kathy) Link, Curtis (Sonya) Link, Debbie (Kevin) Grant, Jeff Link, and Joey (Lola) Link, along with a special friend, Clifford Atwell, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Preceding him in death are his father, Robert Link Sr.; his son, Kyle Clingan; his father-in-law and neighbor, Gene Herron; and several aunts and uncles.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday April 12, 2025, at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center 3940 N. Vermilion St. Danville, IL 61834. Officiating will be Dan Hunt. A memorial visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home.
