Robert Lee Washington

Robert Lee Washington 63, of Champaign, IL passed away at 5:09 a.m. on December 19, 2012 at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana. As per his wishes Robert was cremated and a Memorial Service will be at 1:00 p.m. Friday Dec. 28, 2012 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center Champaign-Urbana Chapel 710 N. Neil St. in Champaign. Robert was born Sept. 8, 1949 in Inverness, MS. He was the son of Preston and Everline Lewis Wheeler. He married Vertistine Richardson on Aug. 9, 1980 in Chicago, IL. She survives. Other survivors include 5 sons: Omar Washington of Champaign, IL; Ali, Abdul, and Kareem Washington all of Urbana, IL; and Yusuf Washington of Champaign, IL. A daughter Sayida Washington of Urbana, IL. A brother Leslie Duncan of Chicago, IL and a sister Sharon Duncan also of Chicago, IL. He had 10 wonderful grandchildren and 4 nieces- Latosha, Kasha, and Warren Mack, and Shamika Duncan, 2 nephews- Antoin Duncan and Milton Grimes. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister Phyllis Mack. Robert was a cook for many years in the Chicago area and later moved to Champaign where he invested his time in his family. He enjoyed singing. Robert loved cutting up and making people laugh. He helped others during their time of need. He was known for having a huge heart. Most of all he loved his family.
