Robert L. Wendel

Robert L. Wendel, 71, of Mahomet, passed away on Wednesday, August 10, 2022, at his home with family by his side. He was born in Kankakee, IL on December 23, 1950, the son of Thomas and Virginia Wendel. On June 30, 1990, Bob married Dorothy F. in Gibson City, IL, she survives.

Bob is also survived by his children, Randy (Donna) Wendel, Kimberly (Scott) Gocker, Kristine Schroeder, Tiffany Wendel, David Lesher; siblings, Marsha Arseneau, Scott Ellis, Larry Wendel, 13 grandchildren, and 9 great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Virginia Wendel, 1 sister and 3 brothers.

Bob graduated from Donovan High School in 1969 before joining the United States Army. Throughout his years in the service Bob received many awards including the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service and Campaign Medals, Combat Infantry Badge, Bronze Star Medal, and Purple Heart Medal.

He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing, camping, and boating. In his spare time Bob also enjoyed carpentry and playing cards. He will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of meeting him.

A memorial visitation will be held from 4pm to 8pm on Sunday August 21, 2022, at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Chapel 1102 Churchill Rd, Mahomet, IL 61853. Bob will be laid to rest at Danville National Cemetery in Danville, IL. Memorial donations may be made in Bobs name to the Wounded Warrior Project.
