Danville - Robert L. Cox, 85, of Danville, IL, passed from this life into his Heavenly Home at 5:45am on August 26, 2018 at his home with his loving wife by his side. Robert was born on May 2, 1933, the Son of Arthur Lewis and Reba (Bradfield) Cox in Montezuma, IN. He married Christy Snyder on March 19, 1994 in Las Vegas, NV. Survivors include his wife; Christy Cox, two sons; Edward Cox of Seattle, WA and Robert E Cox of Draper, UT, two Daughters; Roxann (Ronnie) Cheever of Riverton, UT and Lynn (Gordon) Walters of Renton, WA, and an Honorary Daughter, Stephanie (Randy) Jackson of Maple Valley, WA, as well as 8 Grandchildren and several Great Grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, including a special Nephew, Robert (Wendy) Cox of Christiana, TN. Robert is proceeded in death by his parents, three Brothers, Wayne, Howard and John Cox, two Sisters, Wilma Woods and Janet Cocergine. Robert served in the United States Navy aboard the USS Bataan and the USS Columbus during the Korean War. He retired from Rockwell International Aerospace Division in Palmdale, CA, where he was a Metrologist. He tested and calibrated electronic equipment on the Space Shuttles and the B1B Lancer. Robert was a Charter Member of the Tehachapi, CA Elks Lodge, a member of the Moose Lodge in Palmdale, CA, where he served as Jr. Governor in 1992/93. He was also a member of the American Legion, and a life member of the VFW in Palmdale, CA as well as a life Member of the Amvets in Rockville, IN. Robert was a quiet, private man who loved his Family, was a devoted and loving Husband, had a huge, giving heart and a wonderful, sometimes ornery sense of humor. He will be greatly missed by his Family, his Wife and his two 4 legged "babies", Buster and Pippi. As per his wishes, Robert was cremated and a Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, September 16, 2018 at Sunset Funeral Home, 3940 North Vermilion Street, Danville, IL. Raymie Gordon will officiate. Visitation is from 1-3pm, with a Memorial Service at 3pm. Military Rites will be accorded by the American Legion Post 210 Honor Guard following services. Memorials in Roberts memory may be made to Carle Home Hospice. His wife would like to extend a heartfelt Thank You to Dr. Thomas Halloran and to Carle Home Hospice, especially Nurse Rick, for the wonderful care and support that was given.
