Robert J. Estes, 74, of Westville, passed away at 3:25pm, Sunday, March 15, 2015, at VA Illiana Healthcare Systems, Danville. He was born on September 16, 1940, in Owensboro, KY, the son of Hulbert and Lois {Decker} Estes, both deceased. On October 14, 1977, he was united in marriage to Janice Farrell. They were married for 37 years. Survivors include: the love of his life, Janice; his step-son, James Kevin (Teri); his step-daughter, Monica Howard; his four grandchildren, Chelsea, Dalton, Kalton, & Marnie; his great grandson, Joseph Robert; and his nephew, Billy Basham. Robert was a proud Veteran of the US Marine Corp. He served as Deputy Sheriff for Vermilion County from 1968-1977. He also worked as a patrolman for Georgetown Police Department 1980-1982 and for the Westville Police Department beginning in 1983. During his time with Westville Police Department he became Chief of Police on May 11, 1998, until he retired in 2001. He was a member of the Masons, Westville Sportsman Club, as well as, member of the Sheriffs Association & State Police Association. Robert enjoyed being with his family, going camping, and his guns. He will be dearly missed by all of his family and his buddies. A visitation will be held 4:00pm-8:00pm, Friday, March 20, 2015, at Sunset-Urbas Funeral Chapel, Westville, with Military Honors to be given at 4:00pm by the Westville American Legion Post #51. A Masonic Service will be conducted at 7:00pm at the funeral home on Friday. As per his wishes, Robert will be cremated. There will be no service. Memorial donations may be given in his name to Vermilion County Animal Shelter.
