Robert Hoecker

Robert "Bob" Hoecker was born in Jacksonville, IL on April 25, 1939 to Eloise and Jack Hoecker. He was preceded in death by both parents and his younger sister, Melinda Capitano. Bob was a graduate of Western Illinois University where he met and married his beloved wife, Barbara. He began his career in 1961 as a Fire Construction Engineer with the Illinois Inspection and Rating Bureau. He also served as a Special Agent for Commercial Union Insurance Company of New York. The family moved to Danville, IL in 1966 when he joined the firm of Webster Heskett Insurance. In 1977, he opened his own insurance agency, Hoecker Burow Insurance with his partner Bill Burow. In 1985 they merged with Wolford Agency until he retired in 2003. As an independent agent Bob was a member of the Cincinnati Financial President's Club and received an award as one of it's highest producing agents and traveled the world as a member of the Club. Following his retirement, Bob and Barbara spent a majority of their time in Venice, Florida. While in Danville he served on various boards including the YMCA, St. Elizabeth and USMC Hospital Boards, DCC, Kiwanis, Independent Insurance Agent Association and the Chamber of Commerce. He was most proud of the work he did with various local youth sporting groups and having a role in bringing the first K-9 Unit to the Danville Police Department. His commitment to the community has been demonstrated consistently, quietly, effectively, and effortlessly throughout the years. He adored his children, both graduates of Schlarman High School; Brad (Susan) Hoecker of Summit, NJ and their children; Anna and Robbie Hoecker; his daughter, Brycie Wynne of Dallas, TX and her children; Isabella, Bowie and Augustus. He was so proud of his family and cherished their time together. Bob was a man of integrity and honesty and was a man of his word. He will be remembered for his humor, generosity and selfless devotion to his family. He was blessed with a gift of the ability to start a conversation with a total stranger and make an instant friend. Bob loved all sporting activities and in his later years particularly enjoyed golf, fishing, hunting, and target shooting with buddies young and old. The family requests that in lieu of flowers please consider a donation to Schlarman Academy or the Danville Police K-9 Unit. May his memory live on in all our hearts forever. A visitation will be held at Sunset Funeral Home on Thursday, August 6, 2015 from 9:00 am - 11:00 am with a short service to follow at 11:00 am.
